The ProQual Level 2 Award in Mental Health First Aid Awareness is designed to provide learners with the fundamental knowledge to recognise mental health conditions and understand the role and responsibilities of Mental Health First Aiders in the workplace.

What is the NVQ Level 6 Diploma?
The NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice is a bachelor’s degree-level qualification. It is for people whose responsibilities include developing and implementing health and safety procedures within their workplace.
NVQs are a premier vocational qualification, ideal if you prefer a practical, evidence-based approach to learning that takes place within your working environment — providing an effective and enriching alternative to academic study.
Completing the NVQ Level 6 allows health and safety practitioners to apply enhanced knowledge to their work environment.

The Level 2 Award in Mental Health First Aid takes approximately 20 hours to study, including 15 guided learning hours and 5 hours of additional personal learning time.
The Proqual Level 2 Award consists of three total units:

Understand common mental health conditions
Understand the role of the mental health first aider

Identify the risk factor of the following:

Understand the role of the mental health first aider
Describe the skills required by a mental health first aider
Identify common treatments and/or interventions used for managing mental ill health

Identify sources of reliable information, support and guidance for mental health first aiders
Candidates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge through a range of assessment methods, including evidence from their day to day work (submitting photos, reports, emails etc.), a discussion with their assessor about the principles of Mental Health First Aid, and some written Q&As.

The Proqual Level 2 Award in Mental Health First Aid is a great first step for a career in health and safety. Learners can progress to the NEBOSH General Certificate, building on their knowledge of first aid with risk assessments skills and an awareness of safety hazards.
